Publicly appointed and sworn experts are highly sought-after specialists whose expertise is in demand – amongst private individuals, businesses and the courts. In Germany, there are around 9,000 publicly appointed and sworn experts registered with the Chamber of Industry and Commerce. One such expert is Marc Holz, Managing Director of the IFO Institute for Surface Technology, who has been working as an expert since 2002 and, since 2015, as a publicly appointed and sworn expert in the field of "corrosion and surface protection through coatings, particularly for metals, fibre-reinforced composites and plastics". "No distance too far, no height too high," is how Marc Holz describes his scope of work, for example in the field of façade technology. There is hardly a high-rise façade in Frankfurt that he has not accessed.
