This test assesses the protective effect of coatings on aluminium against filiform corrosion. To do this, a test plate is scratched through the coating down to the base material. The plate is then placed in a test chamber filled with hydrochloric acid vapour. Alternatively, the hydrochloric acid may be dripped onto the scratch. After 1,000 hours in a climate chamber under constant conditions, the resulting under-cut is assessed.
