In durability tests, coatings are tested for their resistance to chemicals, operating fluids and cleaning agents – with or without additional thermal stress, depending on the requirements. One specific test is the alkali or acid-heat-alkali (SWA) resistance test.

Typical test equipment is defined by the VW 50002 factory standard, for example.
