Colour measurement according to DIN EN ISO / CIE 11664-4

In the CIE L*a*b colour space, every perceptible colour is defined within a three-dimensional coordinate system. Both the illumination (type of light and angle) and the measurement geometry are of crucial importance for the measurement. In the 45°/0° geometry, circumferential directional illumination is provided at a 45° angle and observation takes place perpendicular to the same plane (0°). This takes into account the influence of the surface texture. In the case of the d/8° geometry, the measurement surface is illuminated diffusely and viewed at an angle of 8° to the vertical. Illumination is normally provided by D65 daylight at a 10° normal observer angle.
