The laser-based Raman microscopy technique combines the imaging capabilities of an optical microscope with the analysis of organic and inorganic compounds. This is achieved by exciting specific bonds in organic molecules using monochromatic light and recording the resulting energy difference. The resulting Raman spectrum is regarded as the chemical fingerprint of the material under investigation.
