Scratch test according to MBN 10494-5 chapter 5.2.1

In the manual scratch test in accordance with the Mercedes-Benz standard, the coating is scraped away down to the substrate and the edge is assessed against reference images; this is a quick adhesion test in accordance with OEM specifications.

The manual scratch test is a testing method in which a special cable knife is used to scrape away the coating down to the substrate whilst pulling the blade. The edges of the scraped-away coating are then examined and assigned a rating on the basis of reference images.
