To ensure the proper manufacture of construction products in the field of hot-dip galvanising, we carry out certification of companies in accordance with ISO 1461. The standard specifies the general requirements for the properties and testing of coatings applied by immersing fabricated iron and steel components (including certain castings) in molten zinc.
This standard does not apply to continuously hot-dip galvanised steel strip and wire, or to products manufactured from them (welded mesh and wire netting), pipes that are hot-dip galvanised in automated plants, and hot-dip galvanised products (for example, mechanical fasteners) for which separate standards exist. These may contain additional requirements or specify requirements that differ from those in this standard.
This standard does not cover the post-treatment or additional coating of hot-dip galvanised parts. In this context, the DASt Guideline 022 “Guideline on Hot-Dip Galvanising as Corrosion Protection for Steel Structures” must also be observed in the field of building regulation. This guideline sets out requirements for pretreatment, the hot-dip galvanising process, and testing and acceptance that go beyond those specified in DIN EN ISO 1461.
