QUALISTEELCOAT is an international quality mark for the application of organic coatings to steel. Steel, the most commonly used building material in architecture and industry, must be protected against corrosion. Where corrosion protection is to be achieved by means of organic coatings, this falls within the scope of QUALISTEELCOAT.
The QUALISTEELCOAT requirements go beyond corrosion protection and include requirements relating to mechanical properties, weather resistance and decorative appearance. The QUALISTEELCOAT specification sets out the quality standards and requirements that a coating plant must meet internally in order to market its product as a QUALISTEELCOAT-certified plant.
It sets out the quality requirements for coating plants and coating systems, the approval of coating materials, and the regular external quality control of coating plants that bear the QUALISTEELCOAT quality mark.
Only coating systems that comply with this specification may be used. The coating contractor may only use coating materials for which the manufacturer has received approval from QUALISTEELCOAT.
The relevant licence certificate specifies the coating systems and corrosivity categories for which a coating contractor holding a QUALISTEELCOAT licence is qualified.
In addition to reviewing the comprehensive in-house quality control and documentation programme, our inspectors take samples during the quality inspection, which are then subjected to the prescribed corrosion tests in the laboratory. Only approved coating systems are permitted for the coating process. Coating materials are approved in our accredited laboratory.
